Antimicrobial resistance (AMR)

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR)

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) threatens the efficiency of antimicrobials in the public health as well as the animal health sector, and thereby also jeopardizes the welfare of livestock, profitability of livestock production and safety of animal products.
It is possible to have healthy and productive livestock by combining prudent and medically rational use of antibiotics with disease preventive measures other than the use of antibiotics.
Other disease preventive measures include:
a) Good animal husbandry and welfare such as appropriate management, housing, feeding, and water supply;
b) Effective external as well as internal biosecurity at the farm;
c) Efficient and relevant vaccinations.
